Yes, but the experience for movie-goers needs to be improved…
I will always advocate for movie theaters because I would prefer not to watch every movie from home. I would miss the experience of going to a movie theaters too much. I would miss debating with friends and family on whether we should eat before or after the movie or whether or not the tub of popcorn was worth the price. Most importantly, I would miss being able to immerse myself in the movie theater experience with its larger-than-life screens and surround sound.
However, I need more. No, not more food or drink options. While I appreciate movie theaters offering upscale food and drink options or a delivery option to my seat, I need amenities that would be unique to a movie theater.
So, what do I want that can be only found at the movie theaters? For starters, I want an extra incentive to watch a movie when it’s released—similar to what I expect from a book release. I want previews to be replaced with trivia questions or exclusive interviews or footage to get me excited about the movie. I want the opportunity to win a prize that day. I do not want to participate in a sweepstakes with all movie-goers around the nation in hopes to win a prize that will be mailed to me weeks later. Overall, I want an experience that I can not get anywhere except at the movie theater.
What about you -are movie theaters worth saving? If not, why? If so, why?
